2022 Kia Sportage Engine and Performance

The 2022 Kia Sportage is one of our most asked about SUVs. It seats 5 people comfortably, has LED headlights, and a bunch of standard safety features. So what about under the hood? Gas prices are rising and new vehicle buyers need to consider the effectiveness of the engine. The Kia Sportage comes in 4 trim levels the LX, EX, SX Turbo, and Nightfall Edition. Across all four trims are a reliable six-speed automatic transmission and the choice between standard front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Kia offers two engine options to power the Sportage. The first engine option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This is the base engine that provides 181 horsepower and 175 lbs of torque. While driving through the city, running errands, or picking the kids up from school you can expect a fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon. When going on road trips, long commutes, or on the highway you can expect approximately 28 miles per gallon. With all-wheel drive, the fuel economy changes to 19 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. The 2022 Kia Sportage has a 16.4-gallon fuel tank.

The second available engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine also with the same 6-speed automatic transmission and choice of front or all-wheel drive. This 2.4-liter engine is the default on the EX, LX, and Nightfall Edition. Different engine means different fuel economy. — With front-wheel drive the fuel economy in the 2022 Sportage is 23 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway. With all-wheel drive, the fuel economy changes to 22 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. Regardless of the drivetrain you choose, you can expect a max mileage of 426 miles.
