2023 KIA EV6 vs 2023 Tesla Model 3

For better or for worse, the Tesla Model 3 has been the go-to electric car for most buyers. However, this is mainly due to Tesla's monopoly in the electric vehicle market. With so many EVs coming from KIA and other brands, this monopoly has fallen, and a plethora of EV options are now available to potential buyers. With the 2023 Kia EV6 making waves in the EV market, it's time to see how the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year stacks up against the established Tesla Model 3.

Performance

Below is a table breaking down the cost, range, and power for both vehicles.
MSRP Trim Range Power
$48,700 EV6 Wind (RWD) 310 miles 225 hp/258 lb⋅ft torque
$52,600 EV6 Wind (AWD) 303 miles 320 hp/446 lb⋅ft torque
$52,900 EV6 GT-Line (RWD) 310 miles 225 hp/258 lb⋅ft torque
$57,600 EV6 GT-Line (AWD) 303 miles 320 hp/446 lb⋅ft torque
$61,600 EV6 GT (AWD) 206 miles 576 hp/545 lb⋅ft torque
$42,990 Model 3 272 miles 258  hp/ 307 lb⋅ft torque
$53,990 Model 3  Performance 315 miles 450 hp/471 lb⋅ft torque
As you can see, the 2023 Kia EV6 offers a total of 5 trims, all with various specs. The RWD EV6s the highest range in the EV6 lineup; 310 miles . The only Tesla Model 3 that matches said range would be the Model 3 Performance, which clocks in at 315 miles, but with a heftier price tag. In terms of raw power, the EV6 GT offers a blistering 576 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. The only comparable Model 3 is again, the Model 3 Performance which produces 450 horsepower and 471 lb-ft of torque. However, the EV6 GT costs around 10K more than the Model 3.  Please note that the Tesla Model 3 has the potential to cost around $70,000, but we will go over that later.

Safety Technology

In terms of safety technology, the Kia EV6 comes standard with Kia Drive Wise, a suite of safety technologies. Safety features include:
  • Blind-Spot View Monitor
  • Surround View Monitor
  • Auto Emergency Braking
  • Highway Driving Assist 2
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist  Reverse
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist
  • and much more.
Surround View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist are exclusive to the Wind Technology Package for an additional $1,500. A trims above the base Wind Trims receive these features as standard. The Tesla Model 3 comes with standard automated emergency braking,  lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, much less than what the Kia EV6 offers as standard. There are more safety features available for the Model 3, but only by purchasing the Enhanced AutoPilot Package for $6,000 or the Full Self Driving Capability Package for another $15,000. If you want to outfit your Model 3, with all driver-assist features, you'd be paying  $57,990 for the Model 3 and $68,990 for the Model 3 Performance.

Reliability

New technology usually means new problems, and the same goes for Electric Vehicles. With this in mind, Kia offers one of, if not, the best warranties in the automotive industry: a 5 year/60,000 mile basic and a 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The Tesla offers a less comprehensive 4 year/50,000 mile basic and 8 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. You may ask, "Who cares about warranty?" but trust me, if you purchase the Tesla Model 3, you will. The Tesla Model 3's reliability and unreliable Autopilot have led to legal issues and even criminal investigations. The Tesla Model 3 is also notorious for cabin noise, rattling compartments, and loose panels. The 2023 Kia EV6 has none of these issues. At the end of the day, the 2023 Kia EV6 simply offers more options for ever budget. Whether you want a long range EV or a powerhouse, you can make an EV6 that compliments your desires. The Tesla Model 3 is too limited, pricey, and until Tesla nails down quality control, it's hard to recommend the Model 3.
